Principles of Freedom Scholarship

28 great ideas that changed the world!

America is a miracle. Where do we offer young people the chance to fall in love with America?
We are Americans that want to hand to our kids, the country we learned about and grew up in. If we don't teach it, we will lose this system!

Student Guideline         Student Application

Can you answer any of these questions...............
Is this country a Republic or a Democracy?
If the Congress makes a law which is contrary to the Constitution, must the people obey it?
What is the President's oath of office?
What is the oath that each congressman and senator must take? Does it have to be in writing?

This scholarship is for High School Seniors

Do you know the real meaning behind the Constitution? Do you know why the Founding Fathers created the first ten amendments? Where did they get their ideas from? You won't find this information in today's schools. In fact, once you know the reasons behind these amazing documents, you will be awakened to the fact that the Constitution has been ignored for the last 100 years. The children of that time were taught the Constitution from a book by Arthur J. Stansbury in 1828 titled the Catechism on The U.S. Constitution.

Each participating senior student must obtain a copy of "The 5000 Year Leap" by W. Cleon Skousen. It is thoroughly documented by 15,000 hours of research from the letters and documents of the Constitutional Convention. Dr. Skousen broke it down to a simpler book that makes it an easier study.

The student will be asked to read the book, which covers 28 guiding principles of freedom. The student will then asked to submit a 1000 word essay to the Principles of Freedom Scholarship Committee. Judges will review all the essays and choose a winner. The winner will be awarded a $1000 grant to the college of his or her choice.

Some of the Principles covered are:
The Genius of Natural Law
A Virtuous and Moral People
Man's Unalienable Rights
Sovereignty of the People
Property Rights Essential To Liberty
Free Market Economics
Limiting and Defining The Powers of Government
Strong Local Self Government
Avoiding the Burden of Debt

"As a high school teacher of American Government, I have thrilled to observe the reaction of students when exposed to these founding principles. They have a much better understanding of the political world they are being thrust into; they can make decisions about real life situations based on correct principles; and they are much better prepared to enter college and bring political truth to college classrooms. Many of my graduated students have returned to thank me for teaching them the foundational principles contained in this book. Perhaps this book's motto should be: Don't leave high school without it!"
