Ever hear of reverse engineering? Take a competitors product and rearrange it so it makes something else. Can you interchange components? Can you use another pattern? How about another sequence? Transpose cause and effect? Can you turn parts backwards, inside out or upside down? Reversible clothing is an example.
Consider looking at a problem from an opposing point of view. For instance, how would the marketing plan or product idea for you product or service look to a construction worker? A dentist? A lawyer? A Housewife?.
Many people are interested in crafts. If you've ever gone to a craft show, you'll see dozens if not hundreds of people selling all types of craftes. There are rings, bracelets, necklaces. There are wreaths, candles and statues. Lets take candles for our example. Let's use the opposing view method to see how someone else might look at your product.
Now, by adding something to this product you can create a USP (Unique Selling Proposition) You can create something that your competitors don't have by making it better. You can write a small report (4 to 8 pages) that tells buyers of your cancles, how to decorate their home or office with candles and give this report out with every candle sale!
What if you sat down with some friends and tell them you want to get into the paper clip business, but you wanted to improve or change the product, so you could start a "new" trend! What kind of ideas might you be looking for? .
What is the reverse of paper clipping? The reverse might be NOT to paper clip. Perhaps you can use a "paperless" method of "clipping" electronic documents using software and your electronically stored documents.
Do you have the problem of hitting the bottom of a ketchup bottle to get what's left in the bottom? Heinz solved that problem by reversing the bottle. They turned it upside down. They created a bottle that stands on its cap which always leaves the ketchup on the bottom ready to pour!
I'm sure you've seen these new bottles in your favorite restaurant. They reversed the bottle. Clever idea! Can you reverse a product or service and make money?
Many companies reverse engineer a competitor's product, just to see how it's made. It is common in software to decompile or reverse engineer to see how a program works and then make it better or simpler..
CAN YOU DO THAT? YOU BET! Can you make money at home? You bet!
